Wilson, Peter Barton (Pete)

Политический деятель, юрист. Выпускник Йельского университета [Yale University] и юридического факультета Калифорнийского университета в Беркли [California, University of, UC, Berkeley]. В 1967-71 член законодательного собрания штата Калифорния от Республиканской партии [Republican Party]. В 1971-83 мэр г. Сан-Диего. Сторонник контроля за урбанизацией, способствовал превращению города и окрестностей в образец местного планирования. В 1983-91 член Сената США [Senate, U.S.], на этом посту поддерживал консервативную финансовую политику, в то же время проявил себя как сторонник предоставления равных прав всем категориям граждан и приверженец жесткой политики охраны окружающей среды. В 1991-99 губернатор штата Калифорния. В 1993 предложил введение на федеральном уровне более жесткого контроля за нелегальной иммиграцией, один из инициаторов т.н. "Предложения 187" [Proposition 187]. В 1995 без успеха попытался выдвинуть свою кандидатуру для номинации от Республиканской партии на президентских выборах.
